Last time we made the village of Arcford, today we’re making the religions. Just like when we built the town it’s going to be a little incomplete. We’re just going to focus on the religion and try to sum the organisation (if any) attached to it and flesh those further out when we get to cultures. Page 10 to 13 of the Dungeon Master’s Guide deals with gods and deities…
World Building is a messy, messy place and I’ve yet to figure out how to put it in order. Where to start. Some say start with the religion, others say start with a faction or with the map. Later on I discovered MMOs and submerged myself in the world of roleplaying but was always frustrated by the constraints and restrictions that were enforced.
When I discovered Dungeons and Dragons everything fell in place. My intense passion for world building had a space to flourish and there were established, simply yet robust mechanics to make a game out of all that a mind can create.
In Dutch, which is my native language, we have a figure of speech which roughly translates into “That which overflows the heart, pours out of the mouth.” So that’s Maybe A Mimic; a place for my mouth-pourings. You’re welcome for that visual image.
